NEW Generation New Thinking’ has been announced as the topic for this year’s OPITO Safety and Competence Conference (OSCC) which will take place on 8th November 2017 at the Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur.

With new technologies and ways of working developing all the time, the expectations of the younger generation are changing. It is vital that the oil and gas industry evolves with these changes and adapts its learning processes to meet the needs and demands of the future workforce.

OSCC 2017 will present the opportunity to explore what the industry offers the next generation in terms of current support, how the learning and education experience is changing with regards to safety training; and the role technology will play in this process.

Over 450 delegates and 35 exhibitors are expected to attend the event where leaders from the oil and gas supply chain and world-renowned experts in safety and competency will participate in keynote session and panel debates highlighting the ways in which young people can be encouraged to embark on a career in oil and gas and discuss the issues around attraction and retention.

The importance of working with millennials to ensure that the oil and gas industry future is buoyant and how training and safety standards can evolve to keep pace with the next generation will also be considered by a range of industry experts.

John McDonald, interim chief executive officer for OPITO, said: “OPITO, as the industry’s partner in safety and competence, will play a vital role shaping the ways in which the future workforce learns. During the conference, we will consider what needs to be done to meet the needs and aspirations of the next generation whilst maintaining safety and training standards.

“Through a blend of presentations from leaders in oil and gas and other industries, delegates will be inspired to implement strategies that acknowledge the changing needs of the new generation in industry while making sure people are not at risk.”

The OSCC is the only global event focused on debating the issues around safety and competency in our industry in the way it relates to people. It brings together industry leaders, government bodies, regulators and training providers to share new thinking and best practice.

This conference provides a unique opportunity to hear from safety leaders from other industries, learn about new thinking, find out more about global standards and new training practices and network with industry decision-makers who are committed to making the oil and gas sector safer for every employee, anywhere in the world.

International training standards body, OPITO, devised the event as part of its drive for common global standards across the oil and gas industry to improve safety and competence.
