OPITO chief executive, John McDonald said: "OPITO welcomes the Scottish Government's announcement today of the launch of the Flexible Workforce Development Fund, which will offer a £10 million fund accessible to Scotland's employers who are subject to the UK Government's Apprenticeship Levy. We do, however understand concerns from industry that this is only a fraction of the funds the levy will raise in Scotland. Set at a rate of 0.5% for all companies across the UK who have an annual pay bill of more than £3 million, the Scottish Government's settlement for 2017/18 will be £221 million in its first year of operation and whilst funds are ring-fenced in England, that's not the case in Scotland. The funding announcement will go some way to supporting businesses, which is a step in the right direction, but it would be positive for Scottish businesses to see more funding initiatives to support apprenticeship training."
