Morven Spalding, Skills Development Director, comments:
“As the organisation responsible for driving the oil and gas industry’s efforts to engage, inform and guide the next generation of skilled workers, OPITO is working closely with industry, government and academic partners on a number of levels to share our knowledge and experience, and raise awareness of the sector a cross Scotland and beyond.
“Through this engagement and the support we can give to schools and Local Authorities, we are helping to shape a number of initiatives that will build on and compliment the industry’s current engagement with schools and take them to a broader audience.
“This includes work to bring greater alignment to a number of ad-hoc initiatives which target S1-S6 secondary pupils, the creation of a structured oil and gas work placement programme and continuing professional development opportunities for teachers so they are better able to advise pupils on opportunities and subject choices relevant to the industry.”
