AROUND 50 teachers and career advisors from the Norfolk and Suffolk areas are set for work experiences they won’t forget this week (8th – 11th November) as they step into the shoes of oil and gas industry professionals to see what their careers really involve.
Following on from a successful pilot of the initiative, OPITO’s four-day Pipeline of Information programme, organised in partnership with Beacon East, will see key influencers from schools and colleges in the two regions meet with energy industry firms to learn more about the day-to-day work practices and range of careers options open to their students.
During the four days, participants will learn about the role of a test engineer at Proeon Systems; hear from engineering personnel at Proserv and watch a demonstration of their subsea equipment. They will also visit Gardline Geosurvey’s soil testing laboratories to take part in an interactive seismic interpretation session; and find out about the various routes into well supervision for STEM (science, technology, English and maths) students from Fraser Well Management.

“Energy is a diverse sector with a multitude of job roles and career opportunities. For those involved in coaching and inspiring young people, nothing can compare to having a real life experience and understanding of the different areas where opportunities exist for exciting and dynamic careers.
“Our Pipeline of Information event gives participants direct contact with industry, bringing to life how the knowledge given in the classroom and the subject choices students make translate into real job roles.”
